Drama promotes confidence and positive self image. It is great fun but it will also encourage pupils to learn social and group skills, develop their imagination, improve problem solving and communication skills.
All pupils in Year 3 and above attend one lesson per week which comprises theatre games and group improvisation. Stage techniques, stage management, including lighting and mask and mime techniques, are also taught.
The staff are experienced professional actors and actresses and we consider our Drama Department to be of an excellent standard.
Each pupil will perform in at least one major production every year and there are also many opportunities to take part in plays at the Conquest Theatre in Bromyard. We regularly visit the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford- upon- Avon as well as the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Several of our pupils have gone on to act professionally and we have very strong links with the current acting fraternity.
We continue to be successful in preparing students to acquire drama scholarships in their senior schools and we endeavour to encourage excellence in all oral presentation which we believe to be a powerful skill for future success.
For those who are keen to expand their confidence and presentation skills then ESB (English Speaking Board) is available. The ESB mission is to promote clear, effective oral communication and the children, who meet once a week, work towards the exams taken in the Summer Term. The exams involve presenting a mini-lecture, reading aloud and reciting a poem that they have learnt. Lessons are fun and full of lively discussion combined with role-play and improvisation.
