PART-TIME ART TEACHER

St Richard’s is looking for a part-time Art teacher to bring their knowledge and talent into the classroom where they can introduce pupils to art in its many forms and traditions. Working with pupils at all levels the art teacher will encourage and assist pupils to express themselves through art and will include elements of art history including an introduction to famous artists to further enrich their art experience.

The successful applicant will be required to teach the pupils about basic art principles and techniques while encouraging creative expression and will oversee the production of paintings, drawings, sculptures, etc. Media used may include pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolour paint and oil-based paints and projects may also involve materials such as clay, wood, fabric, etc.

We are looking for the following:

  • Experience in several different artistic techniques
  • Aspiration to develop the Art Department at St Richard’s
  • Willingness to make a contribution to the wider school community
  • High standards of appearance, professional conduct and expectations of staff and pupils
  • Willingness to work closely with the Directors of Studies
  • An ability to produce lesson plans, keep records consistent with school standards, provide written reports when required and maintain order in the classroom
  • Provision for differentiated learning and, in particular, activities for potential art scholars such as an Art Club to be run outside directed teaching time

GIRLS' MATRON (RESIDENTIAL)

Responsible to the Senior Matron and Headmaster, the Matron will live in the Boarding House under the terms as set out in the Contract of Employment.  The Matron will be expected to show great flexibility and the following list outlines, but is not exhaustive, many of the duties which fall within the remit of the Matron.  The number of boarding pupils fluctuates and the Matron is also expected to care for day pupils whilst they are at school in line with the duties outlined below.

Responsibilities of Matron:
  • Overall responsibility for girls including girls’ laundry, mending, bedding, etc, in conjunction with the Matrons’ Assistant.
  • Nurturing the individual child and promoting the development of the whole person (body, mind, spirit).
  • Responsibility for the care, supervision, cleanliness (including personal hygiene) and presentation of pupils, coordinating and liaising with other boarding staff where necessary.
  • Ensuring pupils have the clothing/items they need for school and liaising with parents where necessary.
  • Liaising with parents of boarders, as necessary, concerning domestic, welfare and medical matters.
  • Providing in-house medical care for pupils in addition to any pupil with on-going issues and concerns as necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records as appropriate including the administration of prescription and non-prescription medicines in accordance with school policy.
  • Arranging, and accompanying pupils to, medical appointments at the local surgery, hospital, dentist, orthodontist, optician, etc, where necessary.
  • Implementing and maintaining healthcare plans for pupils with illnesses such as diabetes, anaemia, etc, as necessary.
  • Working alongside the catering staff as appropriate in order to co-ordinate any necessary healthcare plans.
  • Determining the fitness of pupils for school or games and advising relevant members of staff as necessary.
  • Ensuring pupils follow school routine as appropriate eg. rising, meals, showers, etc, as appropriate to the age of the pupils.
  • Assisting new boarding pupils to ensure that any ‘settling in’ problems are resolved and reporting any particular concerns to the Headmaster.
  • Advising the Senior Matron of any boarding and/or pastoral issues where relevant.
  • Where necessary, keeping an accurate written record of any boarding/pastoral issues in accordance with school policy.
  • Advising the Senior Matron of any pastoral issues with regard to pupils/members of staff.
  • Providing staff with pupil-based medical information prior to school trips and outings.
  • Completing a written risk assessment for each and every offsite trip which is organised by the Matron.
  • Being familiar with the Staff Handbook including all school policies in particular the Medical and Welfare Policy, Health and Safety Policy, Anti-Bullying Policy and Safeguarding Policy.
  • Completing all relevant forms following accidents and, if necessary, report to the Health and Safety Executive via the RIDDOR form.
  • PSHE as necessary.
  • Playing an active part in the school’s health programme including ‘hygiene’ and education with regard to adolescent changes, drugs, alcohol, etc.
  • Responsibility for ordering uniform for overseas pupils, recording expenditure and advising the Bursar, and running the second-hand uniform shop.
  • Maintaining professional competence by attending courses and study days.
  • Ensuring the school’s medical protocol is adhered to at all times.
  • Attending meetings as required by the Headmaster, SLT and/or Senior Matron.
  • Meal duties: lunch/tea/occasional breakfasts/match teas (Wednesday and Saturday).
  • Responsible for school laundry: table cloths, etc..
  • Writing girls’ boarding reports.
  • Undertaking all other duties, responsibilities and tasks as reasonably requested from time to time by the Headmaster, SLT and/or Senior Matron.
  • Advising the Bursar of any requirements for equipment/materials for the boarding house.
Hours: By negotiation however the following hours are compulsory:
  • Every other weekend alternating with the Senior Matron.
  • From 6.00pm on the final day of an exeat weekend (normally a Sunday evening but may be a Monday evening in May to take account of the Bank Holiday).
  • 2 days prior to the start and after the end of each term
Start Date: Monday 2nd September, 2013

Salary: By negotiation to include accommodation commensurate with the position.
